The position reports to the Executive Director. The Director should foster a truly Global Business Development team combining a small, effective Business Development Unit at HQ, with key staff from the Corporate Citizenship and Philanthropy Team in Neyius Holdings
-UK, the Global Program team, the Development team, and the Country Offices to promote a coordinated, coherent approach that will accelerate our mission.
The Director is responsible for ensuring a streamlined, flexible and responsive process for all proposal response and development, within the overall strategy of the foundation.
To achieve annual targets, s/he will undertake extensive outreach to potential recipients and partners; create mechanisms to maintain, and cultivate, an active pipeline; identify and apply for posted opportunities; identify and pursue pathways to partnerships for new funding, and build relationships with new partners.
Duties and Responsibilities
Lead Development and Implementation of Global Business Development Strategy
Develop, update and implement a multi-year strategy and an annual business development work plan that will enable each recipient to meet revenue targets
Report progress to and discuss challenges with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors
Manage business intelligence collection efforts by staying abreast of overall funding developments and understanding overall funder priorities and calls for proposals
Coordinate & manage the research and strategy for pursuing viable funding opportunities from the foundation, corporations, and government donors
Build and maintain an active pipeline of prospects, in keeping with revenue targets
Evaluate funding opportunities in detail, providing clear guidance on the criteria, deadline, and priorities to ensure the effective and efficient use of resources.
Develop leads on promising funding opportunities by initiating outreach and strengthening relationships with current and potential donors, as required
Identify and build partnerships with other NGOs for joint proposals.
Regularly communicate with field staff to gather business intelligence and keep them abreast of new areas of business development
Prepare strategic approach for key priority funders including mapping our approach to funding.
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s degree required and Master’s degree preferred, in a relevant subject, or the equivalent in experience
At least ten years of experience in business development with hands-on experience across at least two channels (i.e., foundations; corporate partnerships; or government (bilateral or multi-lateral) for an international NGO
Proven track record of success in fundraising with evidence of personal engagement and leadership of successful, large, and complex proposals and pitches
Experience managing staff and working cross-department with a proven record of building, managing and working with virtual teams and creating an enabling environment
Current and strategic understanding of the global humanitarian and development funding environment and future trends
Excellent spoken and written English to include research, writing, communication skills
Editing experience and strong attention to detail
Independent, but good at working with a team and ability to coordinate with others to produce material on deadline, usually managing multiple deadlines
Proven ability to build consensus and support across, up and down the organization
Excellent budget management skills including the ability to oversee complex program budgets in compliance with foundation requirements
Certification or formal credentialing in nonprofit or philanthropic leadership a plus
Proficiency in French, Arabic, or Dari is a plus
International work experience delivering restricted/unrestricted funded projects a plus
